Oh !! No God !!!! No !!!

Happened to be in Blore Airport , last night... While we ( Myself and one of my fren ) were waiting for "boarding" to start , "far -away beauty" caught our attention... My fren , though little hesitant, thought of approaching her ..

We followed her and were thinking of good "first line" to start a conversation...As we approached her , some fully non-innovative and ancient idea dawned on me.. ( I m Poor at these "first liners" :) ) . She looked a little like Bani ( M TV VJ and runners up for last-to-last season's MTV Roadies . Half of my frens follow Roadies and I know they know her very well ) ..

Though this girl looked little like Bani , Bani looks quite better than her...This girl had put on lots & lots of make-up.. No Match for Bani.

So our poor idea was that : My fren would go to her and pretend that he mistook her for Bani.. My poor logic was she would be flattered and would start some conversation with my fren...( Some one help me (please) with these "First liners" , I can see you laughing at us) .. Once she talks for few sentences , it would be entirely upto my fren to strike a conversation with her...

So we followed her .. I took a right position so that I could over-hear conversation a between my fren and a heroine :) ..

My fren uttered few words which I could not properly listen..However , then I heard her saying
"Thanks .... Sure " and then I saw our heroine scribbling something on the boarding pass of my fren...

I thought "wow , what is she doing.. our idea was not such an great idea..but she seems to be wrting down her phone/email id on his boarding pass. Mann !! what a success ... Kudos to you Abhishek"..."

Few Seconds later , I realized what had happenned ..Apparently ( And Sadly ) , our heroine was indeed a Bani ..( Guys , I Repeat she wasn't half pretty as on MTV ).. My Fren got an autograph apparently.. Bani's autograph on our boarding pass... :(

Oh !! No God !!!! No !!!

Experienced an roller coaster ride !!!

Today , 1/4 th of us "XXXXXX"ites have been fired. And life suddenly seems so un-stable. So, finicky...

Ending an 7 year long Motorola journey, when i decided to join XXXXXX, it was well-thought decision. I knew what kinda change i need. I knew exactly how XXXXX might help me and I knew exactly what risk it might pose.. But i decided to take plunge and taste the water.. Friends/Managers persuaded that this might be risky preposition.. but putting a over-confident front, I would say "I would face the challenge"..

Its been even less than 2 months ago that i joined XXXXXX and then this day "Today" arrived..Just another normal day. Just another analysis...But i realized that this might not be just another day when i got to know lady beside my desk has been asked to leave.. She was "fired".. I had heard about "firing", I had seen my US -counter part being fired. but I had not experienced it that close , till day.

In an next 15 minutes, my team member was asked to leave as well. The one with whom , I used to go for lunch everyday. The Guy was almost into an tears. did not really know how to console him , how to give him a strength. The team was just speechless..But little did i know , that this is just the beginning of the eventful day.

The same moment I got a call from one of my colleague. Heard him mumbling few words and I disconnected the call.. He had given me a news. My Email-Id was deactivated. He wanted to send me an mail but instead got a message "This email id does not exist" ..
U have to be real dumb not to understand what this means...

"The Email ID does not Exist"....

I knew that perhaps I might be called by HR , now. But I was just hoping against the hope.. I just hoped he might have mistyped my id. But it was not the case.. I tried to log-in to my email account.. And my hopes dashed when message popped up "Invalid user ID".

Now , I was sure.... This is no accident.. My Email -ID has been deactivated.. Hardly 2 months and I am gonna be fired. Brain understood it fully that today is my last day in the company. But heart never loses hope , it seems.. It does not want to accept what its brain correctly says.. I just foolishly hoped that this is just mistake.. May be , they wanted to deactivate somebody Else's id and deleted mine...May be, that's the reason that HR has not called me up yet.

Every passing second was fueling a suspense or so did my heart think...Finally, I decided to just go to HR and finish the suspense.. Went to her cube.. As soon as i faced her face , her face changed expression..Or so did I think. She brought serious expression even before i uttered a single word..She was to politely tell me what i already knew....

HR: Yes Abhishek , Whats up.
Me: My email id has been deactivated. so Am i in or out ... ( I smiled sheepishly).

Without changing her expression , she just dialed few numbers.

Her face was no more a serious one ...

HR: Oh Sorry Abhishek , It must have been a mistake. U r definitely in. Deleting ur ID must have been some goof-up somewhere..

Gosh !!! :) . roller coaster Ride Indeed. 3 hour long roller coaster Ride.

And I am still a proud "XXXXXX"ite.

One More Reject and Thumping Victory!!!

I am 2-0 down in my MBA pursuit.. Got a Reject letter from INSEAD..so ISB and INSEAD are ruled out.. I am left with only 3 more schools. Meanwhile, I have already started listing advanatges why MBA is not the right thing for me.. Those would be the excuses I would have to use if i dont get a Admit :D..

Anyways, the week belonged to Cricket..India 2-0 down [ Even they were 2-0 down, hopefully I would turn the tables the way indians did :) ] , fought hard and won the historic match..Hope such victories keep coming to us !!!

I feel taking the defeat into the stride is an quality that greats possess. reading so-called cricekt greats mention that aussies lost coz they were "un-australian" in the way they appealed and showed aggression, was funny. "The streak of 16 str8 victories was halted because aussies had to play in the spirit of the game".

Dont think there is any bigger insult to aussie's record in saying that they won 16 in row because they intimidated umpires and claimed dropped catches..

Come on !! Aussies played better cricket and hence they won 16 in a row.. and at perth, Indians played better... Accept the defeat, Guys..:)

Meanwhile, an desire to improve my finance led me to read couple of books.. At least it made me realize how poor money manager I am :) . Reading "Cashflow Quadrant" of Robert Kiyosaki [ Rich Dad, Poor Dad Fame] was eye-opener. Want to understant the stock market better and hence have started reading "All about Stocks".. Will have to see how far I go in this new-year resolution to "read Books"..

Bus neend aa rahi hain , let me go!!! bbye

Life Always Dishes Out "Unexpected" !!!!

How cliched it is to say "Only thing that is constant is change".. Though equally true it is. It was Perhaps First Week of July..A casual talk with colleague, serious discussion with my manager and genuine introspection during this last week of my stay in Chicago ...and there I was on 17th of July , Buying a Gmat Prep book in hyderabad.

I never considered myself to be MBA material. After all, its not my forte to be "politically correct". However, after seeing mediocrity around, I wondered why not give it a shot. I surprised myself by deciding to work towards MBA "Unexpected". worked hard, I must say. To the best of my abilities. 720 GMAT score was decent but still little disappointing. I still feel perhaps it was not my day. some luck and it would have been 740-750..

Looking back (and attention MBA aspirants) , GMAT prep was lot easier than whole application process. Researching for school, writing essays, consulting lotta guys, reviewing and re-reviewing essays , managing recommendation letters. All this Drains u a lot more..seems like I was cut off from whole world..and Now that I got nothing much to do than to hope for the interview call , I thought of writing this up... One small step n first blog of life :) ..would be surprised if I write regularly..

Now 6 months after I first thought about MBA , I am a content man. I submitted application for all 6 schools and ISB already rejected :( ... Disheartened... nevertheless, I m hopeful that something better would come out of my efforts.

By march end, I would get to know whether my efforts were good enough.. if they are not, would have to explore the options.. Let me see what change awaits me around the corner... 2008 I hope is a year of reckoning for me.. I just hope it is . Life needs to move ahead. :)
